Sounds like a keyboard failure, which is common. Sometimes you can find a used keyboard on Ebay. Just read the maintenance manual before you remove/replace the keyboard.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I lent my usb keyboard to my partner to use.
She was able to use it with no problem, so it's a keyboard issue.
It only seems to go wrong on her laptop keyboard on the left hand keys, so we are still a bit of a loss as to the way ahead.
For example if you press the s key, DGs comes up on the screen.
Any help will be much appreciated.
