Files turned into shortcuts

All files that I had on my flash drive as well as my external hard drive has turned into shortcuts, the files are in folders & I cannot open the folders to view it, it is not picking up on my laptop as a removable disk or external memory its picking up as a folder, when I checked the details it says "kaoufazx drive", can this be solved or fixed on windows 8
