Only taskmanager opens can't perform other tasks

Hello, friends
when i start my computer the welcome screen comes & after giving the user name & password the screen remains black. i opened the taskmanager & ended some process then the black screen disappeared & the windows screen appeared but it did not show any icon or any menu or anything PLEASE TELL ME SOME ONE HOW WILL I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?
