Cannot locate files on thumbdrive

I have a Lexar 32GB thumbdrive when I open it the files have markings and letters and it says the the file name, directory name, or volume label syntac is incorrect. The thumbdrive is (removable disk(Q:)

It sounds like the partition of the USB flash drive might have been corrupted or the data inside it. You could try scanning it with your anti-virus program to see if it's infected. You could also try accessing the flash drive via Linux Live CD/USB in order to see if it's recognized correctly and if you can get to your data, or try some data recovery options from this thread: https://www.tomshardware.com/
After you've recovered your data, I'd recommend that you reformat your USB flash drive.
