Hello defaultsettings,
Have you tried connecting the device on another computer? What type of file system did you set on your USB drive?
Please, try when formatting it to give a different driver letter than the F. It might have conflict with your CD ROM. Make it bigger than M, for example. You can do that by going to Disk Management and assign a drive letter.

After plugging in the device, go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
