Hello,
I'm having the same problem with my speakers not working. It was fine the day before then today when I tried to listen to music but it wouldn't work. I tried doing the very first tip you gave out but when I went to click on the sound, game and video controllers it was hidden so I used the panel on the right hand side with the drop menu of more actions to show the hidden devices. Then sound, game and video controllers popped up. I have got the Device ID number thing but don't know what to do with it. I have a Asus notebook.
Hope you can help me.
