Hello,

Can anyone help? My Dad has bought a new laptop that's worked fine for about a month but recently he's found that whenever the power cord is plugged in the screen shuts off.

Very annoying. He wants to return it but it was bought in the UK and he lives in Spain so cants for a while.

Any advice welcome...

Hello judebump,

I think your issue could be easily resolved by going to the Control panel of your dad's laptop. Then, navigate to the Power options and select a power plan.
You must check the plan settings by viewing Change option. It might turn out that there's any power-saving mode enabled, and when you start charging your battery to shut off the laptop.
You could try to change the settings within the Balanced opton or just set it to high performance.

Hope this helps.
