Hello,
I just plugged in my Seagate Backup Plus drive and tried to open a folder. I double clicked on the folder and it popped up my computer's "My Documents". I tried opening the other folders and it's still the same thing. I tried it multiple times and it's never the folder in the backup drive that opens. Instead it's "My Documents."

Hey there, Selena.
Have you installed any new software or do you think there might be something else that might have led to that? Are you sure those folders haven't turned into shortcuts because this happens sometimes. I'd recommend that you update your anti-virus program's database and run a full scan on that drive and do the same with an anti-malware program, to see if that fixes the issue.
Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
