The laptop worked just fine, next time we went to use it it turns on, but the screen is black, but with some adjusting it turns white. When we hook the HDMI cord up to the laptop and the tv, the laptop works just fine, just nothing on the screen. Nothing has been dropped on it, spilled on it. Any suggestions?

It's possible the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard has failed. I suggest you have a local PC repair shop diagnose the problem.
