Hey. I've just installed a new HDD on y laptop. The specs are win xp home edition, 2gb ram.
the problem im having is that is uses about 10 minutes to turn itself off.
it hasn't always been like this but i started to happen after i downloaded a bios update. The bios update said that it would now restart windows and flash the bios. I waited about 10 minutes and it installed properly, but i still have the problem.
Any help would be dearly appriciated.

Try defrag the HD, if the swap file is large and spreadout it will reduce shutdown speeds drastically

hi,
try to do a system restore to see if it can help to help.
or try going to the BIOS settings at start-up, and then check the settings.
check if Cache 1 & 2 are enabled.
if not, enable them and your problem will be solved.
