Compaq CQ58 failling to start up

Hello,
my patop is failling to start up. it was working just fine last night before i went to sleep. When i attempted to boot it its giving me a blank screen and a message in the bottom left corner that reads press ESC to startup machine. i have tried it several times to no avail.

I'm pretty sure to enter the bios, you have to hit f10 after you press esc on the screen with the press esc to enter start-up message.

Did you install any new hardware or software recently?
switch off the laptop
Remove the battery
press power button for 30 sec
Reseat the battery
Switch on the laptop.
If the above doesn't help, shut down the notebook again. Try tapping away at f10 as you start the notebook to see if this will enter the bios menu. If it does, under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab, you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the details of any error messages.
