Question

Hello,
OK so I have a mail.com email account but I cant figure out what the server type is and my internet doesnt work so well, so I'm trying to use outlook but it doesn't work 


help please help!!!!!!!!!Configuration: Windows XP

Hey guys, just FYI, after recently upgrading to an aol.com server, you can get free IMAP access to mail.com (i've got it working right now), using aol.com IMAP settings:

Use
yourfullemail@email.com (or mail.com) as your username, and 
# Incoming mail (IMAP) server address: imap.aol.com
# Outgoing mail (SMTP) server address: smtp.aol.com; port: 587

Hi. I know for a fact that mail.com only offers pop3 mail (outlook express, windows mail ect.) to peple who have a paid upgrade or subscription. Try inbox.com. They offer pop3 access with their free account.

I'm new to mail.com; trying to find a google alternative because gmail is just too dang slow. So far, I like the interface - except not being able to send-mail-as using another email address. Not being able to pop-access was another drawback, until now. THANKS.

I had everything setup on mail.com come for the last few months and working fine,  however today I checked my mail and now all my emails disappeared and the outgoing server doesn't work.  Is anyone else having problems with the outgoing mail server? Or any other problems today?  I got an email yesteraday saying the conversion is complete from the old mail.com to the new mail.com

MAIL.COM SURE LOOK LIKE JERKS, because if you go to their SETTINGS page, they tell you to put  pop.mail.com and smtp.mail.com for POP3 download, but IT DOES NOT WORK!  You have to put pop1.mail.com and smtp1.mail.com for POP to WORK, so these guys are just causing problems for us unneccessarily!!!

I've got the exact same problems, haven't been able to recieve any emails into my thunderbird or outlook express. I can use webmail just fine, but that's rather inconvenient.

Same problem here... my iPhone settings have worked fine for over a year. This Friday it just stopped working with ther so called "upgrade". It is totally unacceptable not having tested this. It is not as if the iPhone user base is small. My best guess right now is not to change any settings at all on the iPhone. They must realize this blunder soon and set the servers up eventually.

Hey Guys,
I had the imap.aol.com working for a few hours and now its not working anymore. I have tried pop1.mail.com, pop.mail.com, imap.mail.com, imap1.mail.com. Nothing seems to working I have tried everything on the iphone and no luck. mail.com support dont even reply back. im running a business off this email and unable to do anything due to this problem. Any suggestions on a new email that is reliable.

this program has no use for me. It transfers the current email adr to AOL... and nobody knows if they don't use my  adr from my account for anything else.... I have canceled the program before execution!

I wait now for any solution from mail.com till end of the week. Afterwards I open an account on Gmail (Google) and forward incoming mails to this new account...

I'm in the same position as Val,
My mail.com emails stopped working on my iphone a few days ago, after their 'upgrade'.
It was set on pop1.mail.com and smtp1.mail.com, for incoming and outgoing respectively.
After looking on this forum I tried pop.mail.com and smtp.mail.com, imap.mail.com and smtp.mail.com and imap.aol.com and smtp.aol.com, with variations of port 587 and the default 110 - none of these configurations work on my iphone.
I can see my mail.com emails via the internet, and interestingly I am still able to recieve emails via outlook, or rather microsoft live mail, which is more or less like outlook - and this was something I set up about a year ago, and it is still using the old pop1.mail.com and smtp1.mail.com configuration, even though mail.com themselves have posted different pop settings on their website, my mail.com emails are still coming through this successfully.
So now I am totally confused, I have sent an email to mail.com, but to expect a reply soon or even ever is wishful thinking, so I thought I'd post a message on this forum and share my woes, and hoping that someone may discover a way.

In reply to Markus, I dont use any hash or colons for my pop settings in Outlook. It still remains: pop1.mail.com & smtp1.mail.com and these setttings are still able to send and recieve emails successfully on my pc.
I used these exact same configurations for my iphone, which when it was set up about 6 months ago has been working fine ever since.
Now its just the iphone not working, so I believe therefore, it must be something specific on the iphone, so maybe an apple expert might be able to shed some light. If anyone else happens to be using any other sort of device, like a palm top, blackberry, nokia, htc, motorola or any other mobile device that you can configure pop settings, and you happen to use mail.com for your emails, then could you please let us know if its still successful. This will help determine if this problem is iphone specific.

My mail only stopped working Saturday,  however I had transfered over to the new site last month.  By doing so I lost all my previous emails and now again I lost all my emails for the last month.  However everything else is now working, even my iphone.  The settings are  Host name imap.aol.com , outgoing mail server smtp.aol.com , I have no idea why mail.com is now affiliated with aol. but those settings are working for me.  And now with the imap type of account you can do more on your phone with your mail.  Like move emails to folders on your phone.

About mail.com iPhone email. Just go to the iPhone settings and ask to add an AOL account. Then use your regular mail.com email address when it asks for an address. It will figure out the rest for you.

Just got my outlook working with these settings:-
Incoming: pop.mail.com
Outgoing: smtp.mail.com
Then, in "More settings", on the Outgoing server tab, make sure the "My outgoing server (SMP) requires authentication" flag and the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" flags are set ON.
I just used default ports (Incoming 110 / Outgoing 25) on the "Advanced" tab.

As you see I use "Swissmail.com" simular to "Europe.com" and use xx:swissmail.com#mail.com and it works since I changed the parameter.

Mail.com is powered by AOL. So if your trying to add a mail.com account to you Iphone. When you get to the add email account, you'll click AOL and type in the details as normal, and it will work. I have two Mail.com accounts on my IPhone.

I've had similar problems sending emails from Windows Mail.
For out going server I ticked "My server requires authentication". However I found that if I ticked 'remember credentials/password" it only worked once and not there after. When I chose to not tick the remember box and thus type in my password for each outgoing, it seemed to work... for now at least.

Doh!!!

Just when you think you've worked it out... it stops working again.
End result... sometimes it sends and sometimes it doesn't... 
Hopefully Mail.com will sort it out soon.

I've been having the same problem since mail.com changed to AOL. All this week I have been unable to properly access mail.com using Apple Mail. I have tried many different POP variations of settings to get my mail.com account working again, in the end I have settled for using the IMAP server.

I have finally found the settings that allow me to send and recieve emails using Apple Mail. These settings work reliably for me giving no errors in sending or recceiving. 

I hope this helps:

Account: IMAP

Incoming mail server

Hose name: imap.aol.com
username: Enter your full email address (for example: 'whoever@mail.com')
password: yourpassword
SSL: on
Authentication: password
Server port: 993

outgoing mail server

host name: smtp.aol.com
username: Enter your full email address (for example: 'whoever@mail.com')
password: yourpassword
SSL: on
Authentication: password
Server port 587

I have been using mail.com for about 10 years.
At first it was just a temporary fancy Email address, in the celebration of my PhD graduation. 
Over time I noticed the reliability of the mail.com services and just decided to stick to it as my permanent secondary mail address. 

Further, I just tried POP: pop1.mail.com and it is working (I use thunderbird but I reckon that it makes no difference).

mail.com have really messed-up the current upgrade but I've been with them for years and it's always been great and although POP3 is $20 pa you get great email addresses. I'm sticking with them.

It seems that sending emails changes from port 25 to port 587 - this is not as simple as it sounds and you need to change settings in your email manager (which they tell you about) but probably also in firewalls and router (which you have to work out for yourself).

mail.com POP3 and SMTP can be set up OK. The instructions they gave worked fine for me.
Set up in Outlook...
POP3 - pop3.mail.com, port 110
SMTP - smtp.mail.com. port 587
I also made the other following changes....
XP Security Centre from Control Panel - added port 587 as allowable
McAfee - added port 587 as allowable
Router - from home page - added port 587 as allowable
Reboot 

and Outbox empties !

Can't believe it. Since Jan 1 all emails sent are not received anymore (when sending it with outlook or iphone). No message at all. Sending it by email.com homepage it works. 
All other emails not sent from mail.com have no problems. Therefore all outgoing messages are not sent to receiver. Anyone else with the same experiance? Try to send yourself an email.

Verizonmail.com just kicked all of us out in the cold after 10 or more years of use, so I decided to get a "mail dot com" and their assorted domain names to use. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!! I have had a couple addresses in the past but everyone I created in the past 2 weeks are blowing up. I'm positive I'm using the correct login, but when I do the account wants my security question answered, once I do then it wants may alternate email address to send a new password to? It then sends one that no one could possibly remember like: *(&42D4 Has anyone else noticed you cannot reset your own password in the backend??? or am I just blind and can't see the change or reset my password. If I can't change it I will blow off mail dot com. I spent a lot of time changing accounts to mail and cannot get back into my main one - keeps saying my answers are not correct and can't reset password.

Is anyone still having problems connecting to mail.com with POP?

I am using Outlook 2007 and the suggestions above still don't work for me - perhaps as my mail account is not the mail.com generic one but one of the specialty ones they offer - in this case europe.com ...

I used to have as user name username:europe.com#mail.com - now this does not work, nor do the generic ones suggested above.

AOL tends to use IMAP for security purposes.  Here are the settings I was able to use.

IMAP ACCOUNT
Incoming
Server: pop.mail.com
Port: 143
TLS Enabled
AUTH Plain
Username: Full Email address

Outgoing
Server: smtp.mail.com
Port: 587
TLS Enabled
AUTH Login
Username: fullemail address


THIS WORKED WITH ALT DOMAIN NAMES.  i.e. My email address ends with @post.com.  So I used MyEmailAddress@post.com successfully with IMAP to send and receive emails.

It is imperative that your email client work with IMAP as most default to POP3.  If you having troubles, consider this.

I've got a solution to all of the above.  GET GMAIL.  MAIL account = FREE, POP access = FREE, IMAP access = FREE, IMAP idle supported.  You can also use Gmail to get AND SEND with other POP accounts.  I had been wanting Gmail for a while but I was already settled with hotmail for years, could not give up my old address and didn't want to have to check mail in more than one place. When hotmail started allowing POP access last year I took the plunge and got Gmail.  It gets all my mail from hotmail and I can use gmail like an email application and send out from hotmail.  One inbox, one website.  I recently got a Palm Pre, when I first signed into Gmail, my mail, my calendar, and my contacts came to the phone. THATS IMAP, I didn't have to enter any phone numbers or anything, it automatically syncs BOTH ways. Send an email from the phone, it will show up in the sent box in thunderbird.  Delete a mail message online in Gmail at my friends house.  Pull it out of the trash with my phone. IMAP is the shizznit!

account. If you let the program do it itself, is not going to work.

I have used mail.com for a number of years and since 2008 I have been a premium member of four mail.com email addresses. However, since mail.com upgraded their site, problems seem to be everywhere. 

My credit card is on their system and I have tried to remove it, but without replacing it with a valid card, when you log out, your existing credit card with them, is restored in their system. They have billed my card several time in the past two months. I logged a complaint with my Credit Card Company, and I do intend to file a Criminal Complaint with the District Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

In the past, if you wrote to their billing email address, they responded, but since December of 2009, my emails are returned to me. There isn't any telephone number to call. 

If anyone knows how I can reach these people, I would appreciate it very much. In fairness to them, they used to be a good email company, however, by trying to be all things to all people, they may be having financial problems and they seem to be taking people for a wild ride. Most of the time I can't get into my email, and although they promise that premium customers would not have a "our system is busy at the moment," it seems to be busy most of the time.

I see that the post related to this topic is at least 2 years now, it's better to have an update setting for 2012. I have encountered similiar setup problem after my iPhone4s was cleared off. What I did was to setup as instead of . Setting is Incoming Hostname : imap.mail.com User Name : @singapore.com Password : ******* Outgoing Hostname : smtp.mail.com User Name : @singapore.com Password : ******* Use SSL : *ON Server Port : 587
