Allowing Microsoft Outlook to access my Gmail

I have been trying for months to open my gmail through outlook. I am unable to set up my gmail on my outlook account. The message I get is that outlook is not a secure connection. Please, please help. I like to receive my email into my PC without going out to the internet and logging on to my google account. Plus I cannot sort and find items on the google server.
