Vista wont show ads on webpages

Hello, I have a windows vista laptop. And I'm experiancing a problem with it. You see, when I go on to the internet and go to a webpage, the webpage loads no problem, but the ads and banners will not load, causing my computer to be unusable for about 30 seconds before the spots on the webpage that show banners and ads finally display a "internet explorer cannot display" meesage in each of these spots, the actual webpage works fine though after this happens. How do i make it stop doing that.
