Hey there, lani.
I assume you are referring to an external drive and not a USB flash drive, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
You should try that drive with a different USB cables (preferably shorter than 12") and a different computer, to see if the same thing happens. You should also check if the drive is recognized anywhere else (BIOS, Device Manager, Disk Management). If it's recognized by your BIOS at least and if you don't have any data which you'd like to recover, you could download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool, to see if it's able to detect the drive so that you can test it for errors and bad sectors.
