It's possible you have a hardware problem with the low voltage circuit on the motherboard. It will take a very good PC Tech with "hands-on" access to the laptop to diagnose. Perhaps you can find a local repair shop.

Thanks for the help but cannot see this as being the root cause.
I can now access the power management settings and have done what other forums have suggested but am convinced it's a software issue as absolutely everything else works perfectly. Issue has only occurred since upgrade to 10 and then back to 7. For it to b a M/B fault is too coinincidental.
In addition, whilst backing my the files to the cloud to download again it wiped them as well.
Microsoft on the case about the missing files but the power shutdown nobody seems to understand.
