Laptop starts but screen remains blank

Hello,

Hello,
when i turn on my laptop, it powers up all lights, fans, hdd and vga fan..it brings a small ligtht but nothing comes up on screen.... but the issue does not come always, sometimes it starts well and the other time the issue comes, i don't know how to solve the problem, if there are any suggestions will help...

I had this happen to me one time, where the computer seemingly came on but the monitor was black. My first instinct was to hold down the power button on the computer to reboot. Oddly enough, it worked, so that will be the first thing I'll do if it ever happens again. only because the computer repairmen smirk when a little old lady walks into their shop.
