Laptop battery issue

Hello, my laptop (toshiba) is just 1 year old and suddenly it's acting as if the battery blew out. It wont turn on without the power cord or stay on without it but the strange thing is the charging status still recognizes a battery is present and says: 69% available(plugged in, charging). Could it be a virus of some sort or did my battery just give up?
