Hello my name is Kenny but call me passion4tech. I'm new here. Ok I really need help with my corrupt hard drive. It seems like I lost my files on my hard drive. I was transferring or copying files from one hard drive to another and my computer cut off and ever since then my hard drive has been acting funny it is corrupt now. I tried chkdsk in cmd and it made these chk files in a folder called found.000 on the corrupt hard drive. With these chk files how do I recover my files?

Hi Passion4tech,

Were you trying to transfer between two internal drives? I recommend you to try using the chkdsk D: /r command where D is the drive’s letter. Could you test the drive on another PC? Is the drive still inaccessible?
Sadly, it may be really difficult to recover information from the found.00 files. Sometimes sudden shut downs may cause a lot of trouble, especially if the hard drive is in use. I strongly recommend you to use a data recovery tool in order to save some important data. I leave you a link with some suggestions:

Hope this helps

There may be some serious issue with the drive. Could you test it on another PC? Additionally, change SATA cables and ports. If you manage to save the most important data, download the drive manufacturer’s diagnostics tool and do a complete drive scan. Does the drive appear At Risk? If so, my recommendation is to replace the drive, because it may cause future trouble even if you manage to save all the data.

Hi Again Passion4tech,
I am sorry to hear you have been having trouble with a WD drive. Did you manage to write zeros to the drive? If you haven’t tried this option, you may be able to save your data, using some data recovery tools or a Data Recovery Company. If the bad sectors are too many, sadly you may need to replace the drive. If the drive is under warranty you should contact the seller or WD directly and you may get a replacement.

I was able to format HDD but now it is extremely slow transfer read write speeds. I format to fat32. Whenever I try full format instead of quick format it fails and HDD becomes raw. But when I do quick format there is no issue.

Hi again Passion4tech,
So basically right not the drive is not working normally. If you use quick format, the drive’s performance is really bad and if you select full format, the process simply does not end. Is it so? Have you checked the drive on another PC? Unfortunately, it is highly possible that the drive has failed and you may need to replace it.
