Hi Paulchii,

I am sorry for any inconveniency caused by your external WD drive. Could you please check if the problem exists if you connect the drive on another PC and using another USB cable? If the drive works normally on another PC, open your PCs Device Manager and search for the drive, under USB devices. Uninstall the WD drive and restart the PC. Plug the drive back in and check if it is working normally. Please make sure you have updated your USB drivers. Backup all important data just in case and update your anti virus software. Do a full systems check.
Would you check if the freezing issue exists with other USB devices?

Hope this helps

Do you have a backup of all stored data? Are there any problems when trying to copy files from/to the external drive? Does the issue appear if you are using another type of external device, like a pendrive for example?
I would recommend you to install the updated version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package. You will find information about it on the Microsoft Web page. Another thing you may try is using clean boot. In the Start Menu, type msconfig, select the Services tab and disable all. Do the same for the Startup tab. If the issue persists and it affects only your WD drive, I would recommend you to contact the Western Digital support. Check the link below:
