Need telephone number as back up changed

Hello,
I am unable to access codes going to my Yahoo account for another account - the number in the Yahoo account is an old number - which means I will not get the code sent to me for verification of an other account - is it possible to change the old phone number in the Yahoo account?

No, it's not possible, you must first access your account to change it.
