Hi Adlrich,
I am sorry for any inconveniency caused by your WD drive. I strongly recommend you to test the drive on another PC and with another USB cable. Please open Disk Management and check if the drive is recognized with a correct file format. If the drive has a drive letter assigned, run the Command Prompt as an Administrator and type the following command:
Chkdsk H: /r
Replace the H letter with your My Passport’s drive letter. Wait for the process to end and then try to access your data.
It the problem persists, search for a data recovery software and try to save your most important data. I leave you some suggestions in the link below:

If you manage to save your data, format the drive and download Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, the diagnostic tool of Western Digital. Check the drive for errors.

I advise you to keep a backup of your data on an external device so you will have a secured copy if something similar happens again.
