Hello,
I have a dell inspiron 15 7000 series. Recently I was experiencing a screen blackout and I would hold the switch button until it restarts. The screen would then project a message that proper shut down did not take place and it gives me the option to restart. I can hear the laptop restart and the led lights by the side of the machine suggest restart is actually happening but the screen is black again and I cannot operate it.

I already tried formating the computer but the problem persists. Any suggestions?

Tania

Hi Tanya,

Could you give us more details about the issue? How did you try to format the PC if the screen is black? When you press the power button, do you see any signal on screen or it is as if the PC is not turned on? I would start by connecting the laptop to another monitor or to a TV. This way you can confirm if the issue is monitor related or there is a hardware problem with the PC. If the problem persists with another monitor, you need to check your video card and motherboard. I would contact a technician and ask for assistance.

Hope this helps

Hi
Thanks for taking the time to answer back.
I took the laptop to a technician due to this same problem. He said the pc had a corrupted hard drive so it needed formatting. We did so and it worked fine for 1 afternoon. I recently bought a game which required a driver so I started downloading a new nvidia GeForce driver. After the download the screen started flashing black and I could not click anything, so I restarted it. After the restart, the dell logo appeared and the screen went black and could not log onto windows 8. I do not know if the nvidia GeForce driver was the cause of this problem. We tried connecting the pc to the tv via hdmi cable but since I need windows 8 to apply the appropriate settings for this procedure, nothing came up on the tv.
Thanks
Tanya

It is hard to tell what is going on with your PC. In general, if it is a hard drive problem, the PC should turn on normally and you should be able to navigate in the BIOS menu. The problems may appear when trying to load the OS. If you are not able then most probably there is another hardware issue.
Before installing the new drivers, did you delete the old ones? Are you able to boot in Windows while in Safe Mode?
