                    you need to be a bit more specific in your question.
your PC needs at least one hard drive, be it sata or ide. it can be primary or slave it matters not which. The boot sequece will be set in the BIOS for the order of booting.
but there has to be a correctly formatted and installed hdd with a valid operating sytem on it for your PC to boot. (unless you are booting from a CD, then you don't need any hdd connected.)
