Here's how to boost up the maximum volume settings in Ubuntu (up to 125%):
- From Ubuntu's desktop, click on System Settings
- Go to Hardware>Sounds
- Go to the Output tab
- Tick the Allow louder than 100% (may distort sound) checkbox.
- You can now drag the Output volume slider pass the 100% limitation:
