Antenna that can better receive a local hotpot signal

Hello,

Is it possible to put an antenna on top of your house that is capable of receiving the WIFI that is broadcast by a hotspot? Is it then possible to run a wire/coaxial cable from this antenna to a router so that you can better pick up the WIFI signal in most parts of your home?
