Hello,
Could anyone give me an estimate of how long it should take to format a 1000G Western digital caviar green (16mb buffer) in windows xp pro computer manager - this is brand new factor sealed hard drive - after it refused to foemat using "quick format" I have been formating it for quite a while - I have a dell dimension with an e6300 processor and 2g 533Mhz sdram that is about 2 years old - Also if you think this is wrong could you suggest an alternate methode to format it

On your system a quick format should take about 15minutes but with a new disc it is not advissable to do a quick format.
if this is a 1tb sata drive and i am pretty sure it is make sure you remove the factory jumper on the hard drive before formating it if it is present.
a normal ntsf format will take prolly 3 hrs or better but thats the best way for a first format.
Also check to see if your pc is capable of supporting a 1TB drive with your manufacturer.
