Hello,
Everyone, I wanted to know is there any other operating system i can boot on my computer because I cant afford the original windows xp os re-installation DVD right now and my laptop (Dell D600) wont boot at all. So is there another operating system I can install like Ubuntu or anything else? Or is there nothing I can do with it? I don't have any files i want to save on it or anything I just want a laptop that works it doesn't matter what operating system it runs on. Im just not sure how it works. Like can i put a virtual pc or something on it? I just don't want it to pay a lot of money because I cant afford to. Help please. Thank you.

Dear CompNerd,

Yes you can install Ubuntu which is free and the best among the free. One other advantage is that it rarely gets attacked by a virus, at least, I have never heard yet of a Virus affecting Ubuntu. One moderator on this forum, Bionik, swears by it.

Before you install it, I suggest that you read the following faq on installation.

https://ccm.net/faq/s/install%20ubuntu

You can download Ubuntu in the Kioskea download section.

Good luck

Yes you can. Write to Bionik he will give you instructions on how to install it over your XP. Have you read all the faqs?

Good luck

P.S. Bionik is very busy these days studying all of computing languages, so you must be patient.
