Is your desktop Windows XP?

XP can take a little while to install USB drivers. Did you leave it for a couple of minutes?

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61M_LE/#support

go there and press "drivers"

Select your operating system and ensure you've installed Chipset.

Drivers from the CD are dated. The most up to date drivers are always from the manufacturers website.

Have you tried other USB ports.

does the mouse work on other computers?

if a cd came with the mouse , run it
if it didnt just connest it , and windows will install the drivers
this a one time process
you need not install it again
