Visual Studio Community is an updated alternative to Visual Studio Express, a part of Visual Studio. It is an integrated development environment (IDE) product by Microsoft for the C#, Visual Basic, F#, C++, HTML, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python programming languages. It is created to write code, navigate and fix code issues. More precisely, this IDE is fully-featured and extendable for creating applications for Android, iOS, Windows and cloud services. Visual Studio Community can also debug and diagnose performance issues.

  • This new version has a workload-based installer in order to install only the necessary features for your work.
  • It also has cloud-connected features that allow you to co-edit and co-debug any codebase and share terminals and servers with your colleagues in real time.
  • In addition, there are tools for Xamarin and Unity to download to enable code, edit, debug, test and share.
  • Also, developing web applications is possible with ASP.NET, Node.js, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Source code is manageable in Git repos hosted by any provider, or by using Azure DevOps .

Is It Free ?

The Community edition license is free, as long as it is linked to a free Microsoft account.

There are also two paid versions: Visual Studio Professional ($45 per month) and Visual Studio Enterprise ($250 per month).
