Sorry for the late response.
Restoring it was a mistake. In order to "sort of work" you would need to install Windows XP service pack2 and service pack3. Windows has ceased to support Windows XP and those service packs are no longer available. Even if they were, it would leave your computer vulnerable to all kinds of bugs and malware.
Time to purchase a new machine.
