Hello,

I have hooked up my new to me PC and Windows is requiring the former owner's password. There is no way to contact them but I need to use the operating system on this. I can't reformat the hard drive until I login and I need to maintain Windows OS because I do not have windows CDs. Please assist?

Try logging in as the Administrator. It is very common for uninformed Windows users to not set the administrator password. Follow these instructions to log in as administrator.

XP Home: Press F8 Repeatedly on startup an select Safe Mode. Then login as administrator.

XP Pro: press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen

Once you have logged in create your own user or delete the existing one.
