As far as I'm concerned Photoshop is the solution, there is no faster way.
When you say image background, are you talking about a display, or EDITING someone onto another BACKDROP? These are two different things!

Hi Mark,
I would think it's like the white background behind the main subject. When you delete it you get to see a checkered background which indicates that it's empty. It's then possible to replace the background or to copy the main subject without using the magic wand to select it.
