My LG Flatron E2240S-PN monitor constantly goes into power saving mode

When I switch my pc and monitor (LG Flatron E2240S-Pn) on, the monitor constantly immediately goes into power saving mode. I’ve tried switching off the power source for both at the mains, disconnecting the power leads from the rear of both, pressing the on/off switch to release any remaining power but none of these actions seem to work. Does anyone have any further suggestions.

there is no signal from the computer to the monitor.
