My computer has crashed!

Hello,
my hp pavilion dv 2000 has crashed. it seemed to be updating vista and now is starts and goes on to configuring up dates... gets stuck restarts and does it again. im going to reinstall windows but does anyone know if i can update my previous windows vista with a windows xp disc? help please

You can do a system restore!! this can solve the problem instead of re-installing windows!
