Sony Vaio laptop restore factory settings

Hello,

I got a Sony Vaio laptop from a friend because the original HDD crashed.
I've put a new one in but haven't installed it yet though.
I was wondering is it possible for me to restore the laptop back to factory settings even without the possible 'restore' files from the original HDD?

Nope. You would need the 'restore' files from the original HDD to do so.
