Hi,
From your computer, access to your inbox. Select the Settings icon and go to More settings. Then in Filters, delete any filter the hacker may have created. One of them should be set to transfer your incoming emails to the trash.
Let me know if this helps.
Good luck.
Thank you so much for that - it worked!
I am still having problems with my lost contacts list - in Contacts settings there is no option to restore contacts. Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Great, that's a good new!
Regarding your contacts, it seems that it is no longer possible to restore contacts from a backup. I don't see any option, either in the settings or in the Contacts tab.
Maybe, if you access the old version of Yahoo Contacts, you may find them there. I tried to create a contact, then I deleted it. Yahoo indicated that contacts are deleted permanently, but I was able to find it in the old version by going to mail.yahoo.com/b/contacts
Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that this will work for you to recover your contacts.
Good luck
Thank you for all your help.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, there appear to be no filter settings in the yahoo mail app for I-pad.
Thanks anyway

The Filters settings aren't available on the Yahoo Mail app, neither on iOS nor on Android. You must access your account from the Yahoo Mail site on your computer.
