Hello,
Few days ago I woke up and tried to switch on my desktop HP media center PC m7680n. It didn't start no fans no lights except the one at the back of power supply. So i started to search the answers and reached your site by my laptop and did the power supply test as given.

I located for the black wire near the green wire and with the use of a paper clip, connected the two wires. It worked. When I shut it down I have to disconnect it from the wall outlet everytime because the lights in the switch at the front of cpu won't go off and fans accelerate.
My question is " Is it safe to run computer like this" What technically have I done to my computer. Sometimes to starrt it up I have to push down the paper clip with the help of a screw driver. What is wrong with my computer?
It is 2 1/2 yrs old. Please help. Appreciate your time and effort in solving my problem.
Thanks a lot

hi,

there may be a power supply problem.

try another power supply to see if this solves the problem.

using the paper clip may cause a short circuit and this may result a burn out of the motherboard and the processor.
