All you have to do is go to System Restore...
go to control panel then System and Maintenence then backup and restore. After that there should be two boxes they say backup files and the other restore files at the bottom of the one that says restore files there should be somthing that says "Use system restore to fix problems and undo changes to windows" click on it you should get a window click next then you should get a list of restore points there should be a restore point on the day you defragmented your hardrive click it and follow the directions when your computer restarts your pictures should be back.
Or...
just right click on the tmp files click rename and erase .tmp and type .jpg instead
