Why can,t i get my ps3 to work on a hd tv agi

hi,
can any one help me with this problem...

I got a PS3 had I for a couple of mouths and I changed it to a standard TV and I cant get it to work on a HDMI TV any more. I have tried every thing but I just wont work. I have tried holding the power button on till it beeps a second time but it still wont work. after the 2ND beep do I leave it for a while if I do please tell me how long for. and if there's any more suggestions please tell me what they are.

wat my cousin told me wat to do is you have to change the settings on the ps3 to hd or watever and he said something about some special cable if that didnt work thats all he said
