No Audio Output Device Is Installed

Hello,
I have run the Driver Detective and the latest scan ran ok. I still have the big red X on the speaker icon on the task bar (is that what it is called -- the icon is on the lower right-hand corner of the screen). Please help me. I would like to take some online quilting courses soon and I need to hear it. Thank you so much in advance. Tsio.
