Linux os desktop to read a ntfs external hd

Hello,
One quick question. Can " Linux OS based desktop" read a USB external hard drive formatted as window NTFS system?
I want to buy a WD passport external hard disk to back up the files in my desktop which uses Linux OS . The Linux OS is Red Hat Enterprise version, I belive. Thanks,
