Cd/dvd wont work

Hello,
im having trouble playing my cds and dvds,my garuntee has just ran out,an ive only just started to try and play my cds.everytime i put a music cd in the drive nothing happens,i clicked on help and surport menu and it said to go on to my media player if the cd doesnt automatically play,i have tried going on media player but still nothing is happening,but my advent laptop will play the system recovery dvd-rom,do you no what could be the cause of this,if so could you please help me to solve this problem?

Dear Sir,

You must first try looking from where the problem is coming from.

Try playing the cd on another pc and see if it works.

If it does not work, that means that the problem is actually coming from the cd.

Otherwise it would be drive itself.

If it is unable to read any cd, it should be having some hardware troubles with its lens.

Take it to a computer technician and they will indicate you what's the problem with it.
