Hello,

I'm running a Mac (10.5.8) and am having trouble opening a recently
created Excel file. I was able to open the file since the first time I created it.
When I attempt to open it now I get sent into Excel, but nothing loads.

Very quickly and briefly a box opens saying that the file is being opened, but
again...nothing happens. I'm just left with Excel opened but not my document.

Info for the doc says:

Kind: Alias
Size: 40kb

Permissions area has these three separate listings, but I can't select any of them:

my name....read & write
unknown....read only
everyone....read only

I have this sinking feeling that I've lost a fair amount of work. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I face the same problems. Excel files that did open now suddenly can not be read anymore. I have this since I updated the latest patch from MS on Office 2004 for the Mac. If I open the file in iWorks and then export it to excell then the whole thing works again. I assume that somehow MS added a bug to the software with their latest patch on MS Office 2004 . I am running version 11.5.6 on MAc OSX 10.5.8

Thanks for this. Opening in iWorks and exporting as Excel worked perfectly.

Also, try opening your file, then go to Window >> Unhide.

I had a similar issue and the file was opening OK, but it was hidden from view.

Window >> Unhide.

Works! thanks

I realize this is an old topic, but I will add one tip.
It might be that the worksheet got set to hidden somehow. I don't know where that setting is in Excel for Mac, but in Office 2007 for Windows, you go to the View tab on the ribbon, then click "unhide"
