Laptop to TV

Hello,
You all make everything sound so simple. Procedure needed in lay terms, please. Have a Compaq(HP) Presario 64 Athlon laptop and Samsung HD flatscreen tv. How do I go about trnsferring from Laptop to TV. Do I have to buy all kinds of fancy cables ??Thanks in anticipation.

I have no idea until you tell us the exact model number of your laptop.

Your HP laptop has a VGA (15 pin) Video output port. If your TV has a VGA port then a standard VGA cable and a Headphone to RCA cable (for sound) is all you need. If you don't have a VGA TV port then you will need either a VGA/HDMI converter or a VGA/component video converter plus the sound cable.

Thank XPCMan. Works fine.Wish the laptop had a HDMI, wouldn't have had to bother with head phones.
