Hello,
I am trying to connect to an exisitng home wireless network. I have inherited an older desktop PC for my daughter. It has Intel(R) Pro/1000 MT Desktop Adapter. How do I connect to the wireless network? Is this adapter a wireless network card?

You will need to buy a wireless adapter. Either one that plugs into the USB port or an add-in card that is internal to the desktop case. The USB one is easier for a novice to connect.
Good Luck
