Hard disk not getting rwecognised

Hello,
i hav an external hardisk conneted to ma system .,.,., but it is not getting detected.,.,., earlier, files on that hardisk did not open .,.,. i want to format it so that it may be useful to me .,., can u suggest me some thing .,.,

Dear Varun,

Unplug the CD ROM drive and plug the external hard

disk to it to see if its detected.
