Hello,
I have a Dell Studio laptop running Vista. Down in the left hand corner where the start button is located I have not only one but two start buttons. One is on top of the other. I can't seem to find a solution to get rid of one of them. It's like there are two files open, one on top of the other. Like one is minimized. I can just see part of the one underneath. That's the best description I can give. Any suggestions?

Hi, this issue can be very annoying indeed, there a several possible reasons, why this type of problems may arouse and I will briefly give you some examples and the appropriate solution, hope:

First of all, you should know that for almost all version of Windows OS( XP, Vista ,etc) , the task bar can be stretched up to 13-15 rows in order to display all active programs , and in many cases , due to some bad manipulations you may accidentally , stretch it and trying to revert the changes without any specific knowledge , may result in messing up your desktop... just like in your case.

To solve this issue simply place your cursor over the task bar and when it turns to double-headed arrow, click/hold on the LMB and adjust it to your needs.

There may be another reason, You should know that there are some software that allows you to have multiple task bar , which is very useful if you are using a split screen configuration (one PC -two Monitors). They normally allow you to extend you desktop on both monitors , will all the necessary options. Please check out it one of these programs is installed and already running on your system and deactivate them.
Some examples are: TaskBar PRO,Multimon Taskbar ..etc ( check out in the task manager if there's any of these programs running).

The third solution, is to scan for virus infection, clean out your system and don't forget to repair your registry.
