Desktop Issues

Hello,
My desktop backgrounds will not let me physically change them but i can change them via right click on any of my pictures and set as desktop background. I downloaded Symantec Corp. Edition and removed a trojan and spyware from my PC but thats the only way it'll let me change my desktop now. Currently running windows xp professional can someone help me out

Dear Sir,

Please explain with more details what you mean by physically change the background for us to be clear about the problem being experienced.
