My laptop freezes

Hello,
i have am IBM it boots well, but after opening the desktop it freezes and you have to manually turn it off. i thought the problem was with the but the fan is functioning very well. so what could be the problem?

HI there,

Please provide more information on the beginning of the issue,mean while remove memory stick and rub in on copper plated surface,reseat in slot and restart machine.
